2. Main activities.
2.1 The Paris International Film Festival on Human Rights (FIFDH).
The [A]LLIANCE association has been organizing the International Film Festival on Human Rights for the past seven years. This event is held in Paris for a week in the spring in the two projection rooms of the Action Christine Odéon Cinema (6è Ardt).
The Paris International Film Festival on Human Rights has now become the most important regular cultural event on Human Rights in France. Orientated towards the general public, it is especially engaged in terms of raising awareness and film education for schools and students. Every year, many unseen films or previews are shown. Moreover, it fully contributes to the variety of films on offer as the selected films are not mainly screened in Ile de France.
The FIFDH is organized thanks to the support of the Mairie de Paris, the Conseil régional d’Ile de France, the Acsé and the Secours Catholique-Caritas France.
2.2 The FIFDH Thursdays.
Throughout the year, every second Thursday of the month at 8:30pm, the FIFDH team organises a screening-debate of an unseen film in the presence of a director.
2.3 African editions.
In 2007, [A]LLIANCE organized the first FIFDH editions of Lomé (Togo) and Bangui (Central African Republic) with the backing of the European Union, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie and the UNDP.
2.4 The Human Rights Film Network.
Since 2004, the film festivals whose programmes aim to promote the protection of human rights have been brought together in a coalition within the Human Rights Films Network.
This network now brings together more than twenty five festivals in the world some of which are backed by major international human rights protection organisations such as Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch.
It strives for a better distribution of films on the subject and intends to indorse the emergence of new film festivals on human rights (programmes, help obtaining funding, organizational consulting,…), especially in the developing countries. Every year, the HRFN attracts a combined audience of more than 200 000 viewers worldwide.
The full list of festivals is available on www.humanrightsfilmnetwork.org
2.5 [A]LLIANCE TV.
[A]LLIANCE TV is a project on a 24/7 information television channel on Human Rights. Its programme schedule will be of general interest including information programmes, documentary and fiction films. It intends to be broadcast on cable, satellite and the Internet. This project already has an agreement (broadcasting licence) from the Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel (CSA), the great council of French regulation as far as broadcasting is concerned. [A]LLIANCE TV aims to broadcast in 2010.
